Why Prevention is Importantcat approaching stethescope

At Woodbine Animal Clinic, we are firm believers that prevention is the best way to care for our patients. It is easier, and more cost effective to prevent any disease or illness than it is to treat. Preventive Medical Care is care given to help avoid certain illnesses and conditions.

Annual physical exams, vaccines, wellness blood profiling, heartworm and flea prevention medication are all aspects of preventative medicine. These treatments allow your Veterinary Health Care Team to have a complete overview of your pet at every stage of health (and life), so that we can better anticipate or catch a disease in its early stages, if one were to arise. It is during these precautionary visits that comparisons in condition of teeth, eyes, ears, heart and lungs, body condition score, coat condition, and other parameters are made and evidence of abnormalities are noted.

Your pet’s diet is also regularly assessed to ensure that they are receiving proper nutrition for their life stage, or to aid in treatment of existing conditions. Keeping a close eye on your pets health not only gives you peace of mind, it also allows your pet the chance to live a happier, healthier, longer life.
